About the Event

The Reality of Nuclear Risk: Situating ourselves in the context of nuclear accidents and nuclear waste

Marissa Bell, PhD

From the spectacular to the banal, this talk outlines concepts of nuclear risk focusing on the dual issues of controversy surrounding the exceptional nature of nuclear accidents, to the long-standing issues of nuclear waste, ending with a discussion of the future of nuclear in the context of energy demand and climate change risk.

Nuclear Weapons and Catastrophic Risk

Feroza Joosub, PhD

This presentation is designed to inform our empirical understanding of the foremost contemporary security challenges and their relation to nuclear weapons. The fact that since World War II, nuclear weapons have not been deployed in warfare, does not imply that there may not be an accident waiting to happen. The international situation is extremely precarious and the threat of war is in the air. The risk of nuclear catastrophe remains – with the entire fate of human civilization at stake.

We would gratefully appreciate all attendees to kindly register  before signing on.
